Youth Moves is a truly inspiring organisation that offers a wide range of support, mentoring and educational opportunities to young people from one of the city’s most underprivileged areas.

Currently based in a series of former classrooms, they are rapidly outgrowing their existing accommodation and they asked if we could develop proposals for an iconic, purpose built facility that would allow them to expand their existing services whilst also providing a robust and functional space that would be able to cope with the demands of regular, heavy use by young people.

We were keen to ensure that the young people of the area had a direct input on the development of the design and, in conjunction with Youth Moves, ran a series of workshops and feedback sessions to get their views and combined these with a programme of site visits to explore other contemporary youth centres. This extensive programme of engagement provided us with a fascinating opportunity to discuss our proposals directly with the young people and to hear first hand what they wanted from the building. Their input, along with that of Youth Moves, lead directly to the creation of this bright, fun, distinctive design that we hope will compliment the wonderful work undertaken by this incredible organisation.
