We have worked on extension and refurbishment schemes for a number of listed cottages within the Woolton Village conservation area and this property on Quarry Street is one of our favourites.
When this sandstone terrace was bought by our clients it was in need of considerable renovation and updating and, whilst the existing architecture was delightful, the layout was poor and circulation throughout was difficult.
Following detailed discussions with our clients about the needs of their growing family we developed proposals that significantly increased the useable floor space within the existing façade; the un-used half basement to the rear of the property was fully tanked and opened up to provide a generous home office, built-in storage and a family snug, whilst the ground floor was fully renovated and we created a new w.c., utility room as well as a great open plan kitchen living space. Up on the first floor the bedrooms and master bathroom were refurbished and we installed a new stair that allowed the conversion of the loft to provide a much needed third bedroom.
Throughout the house we were keen to make the best use of every part of the space and included valuable fixed storage space on each floor. Whilst the refurbishment of existing windows and the replacement of inappropriate upvc frames with high quality timber casements restored character to the elevations and flooded the floor space with natural light.
With careful design and attention to detail we managed to increase the useable floor area of this property by approximately forty percent, transforming this compact cottage into a wonderful, four storey, family town house.
